I almost never get to shoot my Pittsburgh teams, so when the NHL schedule came out, I made sure I was shooting the Penguins vs Sharks. The Tank was thick with transplanted Pittsburghers wearing Crosby and Malkin sweaters, and the guy sitting next to my shooting position was even from the hood where I grew up. Stanton Heights, what. He insisted on buying me a beer, and when I politely declined, he finally said "Holding out for an ARRRRRN?" Things started out well for the Pens, with two goals in the first few minutes:
This chased Sharks goalie Antti Niemi from the game in favor of Thomas Greiss who promptly stoned the Pens on shot after shot.
I enjoy James Neal's game, crashing the goal and generally getting in the way:
Here is one seriously mismatched fight:
The Sharks figured out how to slow Malkin down, mostly by putting him into the boards as much as possible:
After holding the lead for almost all fo the game, the Penguins couldn't hold on, allowing the tying goal to Jamie McGinn late in the third:
Fleury kind of fell apart towards the end, but made some saves to keep it tied:
But Ryane Clowe scored in the shootout, and that was that:
After learning how to play without Sidney Crosby for almost a full year, it will be interesting to see how the Pens react to getting him back.
