2011 Rose Bowl - TCU vs Wisconsin

Starting off 2010 shooting the Rose Bowl was a great experience, and I was
very much looking forward to continuing the tradition, this time with fellow
shooters Tony Leon and Brandon Parry. There were a lot of differences
between 2010 and 2011: Oregon and Ohio State were both high-powered
offenses featuring dynamic quarterbacks making big plays. Wisconsin and
TCU focused more on hard-hitting defense and power running, great football,
but not especially photogenic.

There were differences beyond the teams as well: the sidelines were a mess
in 2010, and the photo room was packed. This year, the photo room was
40% smaller and not crowded, and sideline access was severely restricted.

On to the game:

On the next possession TCU wide receiver Bart Johnson caught a pass over the
middle and then dragged Wisconsin cornerback Devin Smith into the end zone
for a touchdown...

...and then celebrated a bit.

...that set up TCU quarterback Andy Dalton for a footrace with Wisconsin
cornerback Aaron Henry to the goal line. After review, Dalton was judged to
have scored before running out of bounds. I could have saved them a lot of
time with this picture...

Early in the second half the sun was setting over the press box side of the
stadium, lighting the Wisconsin fans in the background of this play where
TCU cornerback Greg McCoy broke up a pass intended for Wisconsin wide
receiver Nick Toon...

...and then the two continued to fight for the ball all the way to the ground.

The rest of the second half was full of crushing hits:

With time running out and Wisconsin down 21-13, running back Montee Ball
dives across the goal line to bring the Badgers within two points, but the
conversion pass failed and TCU was able to hang on for the win.

As TCU was running out the clock, a Wisconsin fan charged at TCU head coach
Gary Patterson. One of the officials managed to divert the fan, but couldn't
catch him.

After all was settled, Patterson hoisted the Rose Bowl Trophy:
